Install And Configuration - SQL Edition - Server

Important Information - Before You Start

The SQL installation requires a few other pieces to be put in place and functioning before our software can be installed. With the SQL edition, our software does not create a database service, as it is relying on Microsoft SQL being up and running beforehand. Make sure to install a functioning SQL database instance, along with the SQL Server Management Studio, on your server computer.

During installation, our software will create a .MDF sql database file, and will automatically attach it to your SQL database instance.

Server Installation Instructions

To install the SQL edition of Maintenance Pro, please run the setup file (it is normally called mp version_sql.exe, for example mp2020_sql.exe). If the file is not available, please refer to your original order email for the download link. You can also email us at support@mtcpro.com with the name the software is licensed to and we'll send you a download link.

Note: For the best results, make sure you run the setup file as administrator, and that the windows user you are logged in with has full local admin privileges. You may also wish to temporarily disable your antivirus to prevent it from blocking anything during the install process.

During the installation process you will come across these three installation options:

Client/Server (recommended) - For the SQL server, we recommend Client/Server, as this will attach the .MDF file and also install the program files on the server so we can test to see if the program works.

Server Only - This will attach the .MDF to your SQL database but will not install any client program files.

Click on Next. The Server Configuration screen is the directory the .MDF file will be located and attached from. C:\MP_DATA\ is the default here, but can be changed if you would like:

Click next. If you selected the Client/Server option, you will get a prompt asking for Destination Folder for the program files. You can usually accept the default here, unless you want the program files installed elsewhere.

Click Next and you'll come across the Database Connection window. It's recommended to use Remote Host Name here as the database will be local to this computer. You will want to setup the Host Name as  SERVERNAME\SQLINSTANCE if your SQL Server is using a named instance. If SQL is the default instance, just SERVERNAME would suffice in the Remote Host Name box. Note this is the same server name value you would use when connecting from the SQL Server Management Studio:

Click through the next few prompts (it will ask for start folder location) and then the install will begin.

If the parameters on the Database Connection screen were correct, and our installer has permission to attach the .MDF file to your SQL instance, the installation will go through with no errors. You will see FMP listed in the SQL Server Management Studio afterwards:

And you will see our MDF file located in C:\MP_DATA\MP_DATA\ if you went with the default database location during install:

If you chose the Client/Server option, try to open the software. It will ask you for your username and product key, which should have already been provided to you via email.
