Linked Services

In some instances you may want to set up a PM Schedule which includes linked maintenance tasks.  For example, a PM Schedule may include a 5,000-mile service and a 10,000-mile service.  When you add the 10,000-mile service to a work order or maintenance record, you want to automatically include all those tasks on the 5,000-mile service as well.

Note that in order to link tasks, the tracking interval between the tasks must be of the same type. For example, to link one task based on Mileage with another task, the other task must also use Mileage for tracking. Likewise with date-tracking tasks (day/week/month/year).  The primary task recurring interval must be set up so that it is divisible by the meter or day interval of the secondary task.  In other words, if the tasks are due every 6 months and 1 year, these should be set up as recurring every 6 months and 12 months, or every 180 days and 360 days.

As another example, a 10,000 mile and a 5,000 mile service can be linked together because 10 is divisible by 5. A 7,000 mile and 5,000 mile service cannot be linked together because the numbers are not divisible.

Here are the steps to set up a linked service.

1. Click Setup |  PM Schedule Templates from the main toolbar. Select the desired schedule from the left panel, then click "Add" to add the first maintenance task to the PM Schedule.  The first task is the one performed at the more frequent interval. If you are not sure how to add a task to a schedule, review the PM Schedule Templates help topic.

2. Click " Save +" to add another task, or click "Save" and then "Add" again to add the second (less frequent) task to the PM Schedule.  Remember that the day or meter interval of the second task must be divisible by the day or meter interval of the first.  Then click "Save" again.

3. Next, after both tasks are created you can establish the link.  Double-click the secondary (less frequent) task to edit, then click the " Advanced" tab.

4. Check the box to select " Linked Service" and choose the primary task from the drop-down menu, then click "OK"

5. Now, when you view the tasks in the "Manage PM Schedule Templates" window, the "Linked Service" column shows the connection.

And, when you add 10,000 Mile Service to a work order, you can see that 5,000 Mile Service is automatically added.

The program options include the option to " Push/Pull Linked Services" when you go to Setup | Settings, then the Program Settings tab.

This option will cause a linked service to be delayed or expedited if the previous service is performed late or early.  In other words, based on the example above:

If the 5,000 Mile Service was performed early at 4,000 miles instead, then the 10,000 Mile Service will be expedited to 9,000 miles.

If the 5,000 Mile Service was performed late at 6,000 miles instead, then the 10,000 Mile Service will be postponed to 11,000.
